Maria Moldovan

Maria studied painting at the High School of Arts in her hometown in Romania and holds a BFA in ceramics from the University of Visual Arts and Design, Cluj Napoca, Romania. After graduating she has always worked with colours on canvas or on three-dimensional ceramic surfaces. She continuously presented her paintings next to her ceramics creating an exciting dialogue between different dimensions. Since 2012 she was involved in children's book illustration projects and has several published books illustrated with her artwork.  Maria moved with her family to Canada in 2013. Currently, she is a full-time studio artist living in Arnprior, Ontario.

Artist Statement
In my paintings, I use rich transparency and overlap abstract and realistic elements creating imagery full of depth and vibration.
I explore the relationship between colour, texture, and lines.
Art for me is a way of being, a way to exist. I can't imagine myself without doing something creative. It's a constant flow from my deepest, inner self.
