New Horizons | Maria Moldovan
As an artist, I've always been drawn to the human form, animals, and landscapes.
For a long time, my approach has been shaped by a decorative, illustrative style—one that emphasizes patterns, shapes, and the vibrancy of color. This style has been my comfort zone, and I've been able to tell stories and capture energy in ways that feel fresh and dynamic. Creating children's book illustrations also had a big impact on my painting style and approach. Telling a story through images, without words was always a challenge I liked and embraced with a lot of joy.
But recently, something has shifted.
I find myself more and more drawn to realism—the subtlety, the detail, and the precision it requires. I feel driven to a more lifelike approach in my work, bringing in elements of realism that I just occasionally explored before. I’ve come to a point where I’m excited by the idea of blending the two worlds: the decorative and the realistic.
My next pieces will explore this merger, and I can’t wait to see where this new direction takes me.
