Not long ago, one of my clients hesitated as they were heading out the door with a painting underarm and asked me “Do you ever feel sorry to part with a painting?”

I had to think about that. I spend a lot of time reworking my paintings, checking back with the original sketch; adjusting until I feel it is right. When I finally place my signature at the bottom and inscribe the catalogue number on the back, it is ready to be shown.

It’s very personal.

Yet, when someone likes my work enough to want to buy it, I have the satisfaction of knowing that it will go to a home where it will be appreciated; even years later when it gets passed on to a family member as I have learned. And I also know that wherever it hangs it will be an ambassador representing the best in my work.

“Not really”, I answered. I don’t feel bad about the loss of my work. In fact, I am proud to have it hanging in some prominent location. Each sale gives me renewed energy and the drive to continue to work at my passion.
