TRANQUIL SILENCE | Kaija Savinainen
A painting of mine has been accepted to an Ontario Society of Paintings exhibition. And I owe it all to Peninsula Lake.
May 2024: The following was received from OSA: "CONGRATULATIONS!! As artists ourselves, we are delighted to advise that your piece, "Tranquil Silence, Peninsula Lake, NWT" has been accepted into this year’s Open Juried exhibition. Take a bow – you deserve it! Over 700 works of art were submitted; there was a very diverse range of work. We gave the jurors their workout narrowing that down to the final participants.”
Artist’s Statement accompanying OAS submission | “To encounter firsthand the power of returning light as experienced in northern Canada, was a powerful moment with profound consequences to my painting practice. The clarity of vision, the intensity of colour was striking as the sun revealed the snow-covered rocky landscape. As daylight lengthened, the sun reaching higher in the sky, a new energy, a new vision emerged. I strove for simpler, cleaner compositions, using a vibrant colour palette. Eliminate unnecessary details, find the essence, the soul of this unique northern landscape. Revealing the “voice” of the north unencumbered.”
