Pick up the brush – pick up the thread

Working in two mediums, clay and painting/illustration always brought a lot of excitement and richness in my studio and artistic life.. The switch, the change, the transition always moves energies in me that would never show up in my work otherwise. The creative process behind a body of work is very time consuming. I need to spend a good stretch of time to immerse, to develop to bring things together and fuse all the elements in one coherent imagery. But after a while I am too close, too immersed, I am not able to see anymore what I need to do next. And if I can escape in that moment to an other creative world that would bring so much freshness and all of a sudden my creative energy is alive again. This is how I transit between clay and painting. Like tide and ebb. Like changing of seasons.

Sometimes the change is brought by simple life facts like a deadline for a show. Sometimes is an inner urge. And the best is if it's a combination of both.

Picking up the brush after a good stretch of time  feels really refreshing to me. I continue my fabric where I left but some things are definitely different and the time between spent with my clay figures will nurture the new two dimensional images.

I will show my paintings and ceramics together at the Art in the Park festival in Ottawa on the 8th and 9th of June, booth nr. 111.
