Ten Canadian Artists | Ten Styles of Painting

A Few Thoughts ~. by Bhat Boy

It was as if the angels called to me from ceiling while in Florence, and I wanted to become a painter.

People ask me how me how I find my creativity, the truth is, I usually have a list of things to paint when I wake up in the morning.

I let my sub-conscience do all the heavy lifting. When I need a solution or a specific idea, I take a nap. When I wake up the answer pops into my inbox.

The real art is in what you don’t paint.

My paintings are more like how you would remember a place, or dream about it, than how it actually is. I think it is this vagueness that makes them so alluring, it helps people mold them into their own memories.

Many of my paintings are from above, as if I am flying, I suppose it is my own special perspective, from up in the sky. Sometimes I am trying really hard to imagine a painting without success, and suddenly I imagine it backwards, and there it is, as if it were hiding just behind me!

When I first started painting, every canvas was a mystery. Now when I start a painting I already know how it will look when it is finished. The mystery is the magic and surprise that I add at the very end. There has to be mystery or there would be no thrill for me.

When I close my eyes at night I imagine the colours that I will paint with tomorrow.

When I see a painting, I do not see it in bits and pieces, but the whole thing appears suddenly in front of me.

Real artists are people who can’t stop themselves from making things.

The best part about being an artist is that people expect you to say outrageous things.

The creation of every painting is like a journey, you may know where you are going, but never quite sure what you might find on the way.
