Dead End in the Studio ~. by Bhat Boy

My studio is a magic place, where the sun creeps across the floor, and the cat sleeps. It is from here that I unleash the power of my imagination to share with the world, but in the morning I look dazed upon yesterday’s brushwork and ponder creative plans made in the night. There is a kettle in the corner so I can summon the hypnotic steam of a cup of tea without having to witness the horrors of the kitchen. I usually start, still half asleep, touching up something I painted yesterday, or adding a detail I had thought of in the night, still awaiting wakefulness while the steam of hot tea tickles my nose.

It comes as an itch, not a creative itch, but one in my nose. And with a violent outburst of sneezing, both expected and unexpected, I am awake. Brush already in hand, I am prepared for the frenzy. Can the simple mechanics of the brush keep pace with the clip of the imagination?

Like everyone else, sometimes things are not quite what I had hoped for, but life is like that. Being in a dead-end makes you look for doors you might have otherwise ignored. At times like these I have to make a new plan: add red; put in a nun; paint it on fire. I often sketch the idea in with blackboard chalk, it is best not to hurry things. I have other choices too, there are always several paintings on the go in my studio so I can switch from one project to another like a change of gear. Roadblocks should be seen as opportunities, amazing things lay on beyond your cul-de-sac; it only takes your imagination to open the doorway.
